Brothers Curtis Delta Duet at 331 Club
Jan 13th
Minnesota’s January freeze is about to thaw out a bit so why not enjoy the evening with some delta blues from The Brothers Curtis Delta Duet which will be playing the 331 Club [Map It] in Minneapolis at 7:00 PM tonight. Better yet, while you are driving to the club in the 5′o clock hour why not tune into KFAI House Party (90.3/106.7 FM) with Hurricane Harold and catch the band performing live in studio. If you find yourself sitting in front of the computer at that time you can also tune in live by clicking on the “Listen Now” linke on the KFAI House Party page.
Curtis Blake (harmonica) and Curtis Marlatt (guitar, drums and vocals) perform the old school stripped down Delta Blues. They are the 2008 Minnesota Blues Champions in the solo/duo category and performed at the International Blues Challenge in February or 2009.
“Curtis Blake quickly became an ‘in-demand’ player. His harp work was a major reason for Sonny Rodgers and The Cat Scratchers winning the W. C. Handy Award in 1991. Curtis is a featured artist at the annual “Blues Harmonica Extravaganza” at the Whiskey Junction in Minneapolis. He has also performed at the Chicago Blues Festival and Kingston Mines with Jimmy Johnson; and as featured artist with Charlie Love and The Reverand Raven. Curtis’ discography includes recording sessions with Percy Strother, Bobby Johnson, Lady Blue and Mojo Buford.”
Curtis “Don’t Hurt Us” Marlatt
since rediscovering his roots (he played accoustic Delta Blues when starting off playing guitar) with his band, Curtis And The Kicks, 22 years ago, out of Louisville, Kentucky, Curtis has performed many concerts, Blues clubs, and Blues festivals with many names in the genre. Blues greats such as Albert King, Gatemouth Brown, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Elvin Bishop, Savoy Brown, Junior Wells, Lucky Peterson, Joe Louis Walker, Robert Cray, Anson Funderberg, Sam Meyer, Rod Piazza & The Flyers, Carey Bell, The Paladins, Billy Boy Arnold, Robin Trower, Mick Taylor, and many more.

Tonight: Studebaker John at The Blues Saloon
Jan 9th
Chicago based blues harmonica, master slide guitarist and vocalist Studebaker John will be performing his second night of shows at Wilebski’s Blues Saloon in St. Paul tonight. Studebaker John is currently supporting his latest and 11th CD “Waiting On The Sun“.
Avanti Records is proud to announce the release of a brand new album by Studebaker John, master slide guitarist and blues harpist. Waiting on the Sun seamlessly incorporates the traditional with the modern, and utilizes a diverse musical pallet, including Chicago blues, boogie, swamp, swing, and even Latin groove. Waiting on the Sun was recorded with two of Chicago’s best rhythm players and frequent Studebaker John touring partners, bassist Bob Halaj and drummer Paul Ashford. The album also features the work of young Polish keyboard wiz, Bartek Szopinski, who is a member of Studebaker John’s European touring band.
Waiting on the Sun contains nearly 80 minutes of all original, highly accessible guitar and harmonica blues and rock. Simply not content to make the same album over and over again, Studebaker John’s Waiting on the Sun is a breathtaking sunrise of different musical elements. Combining, for the first time, slide guitar with Latin rhythms, raw blues grooves, rock and roll, and improvised jams with a touch of jazz that mix together perfectly to give the listener a CD of artistic integrity…in other words, “fun”.
