The weather man says there will be some cool weather headed our way this weekend but why not go warm up with some live blues this weekend. It is great to see the Macho Nacho Blues Bar in Rochester bringing in regional and national blues acts, some of whom rarely make it into the Twin Cities area. A visit to this club is definitely worth the 1.5 hour drive from the metro area. This weekend and next weekends acts at the Macho Nacho Blues Bar include the 2009 Iowa Blues Challenge winners Blues Jam Band, Avey Brothers and next weekend is the 2007 International Blues Challenge Finalists Levee Town from Kansas City, MO.

West Coast Blues Diva Candye Kane will be packing the dance floor at The Narrows Saloon on Friday night. She is touring to support her latest release “Superhero” from Ruf Records and is available in iTunes and from various online retailers.

You can also be part Minnesota Blues History by going down to the Dakota Jazz Club & Restuarant and taking part in Scottie Miller’s LIVE CD RECORDING which starts at 8:00 PM.

The show of the month for me would have to be seeing 95-Year Old Blues Piano King, Pinetop Perkins who will be playing two shows on Monday and Tuesday at the Dakota Jazz Club & Restuarant. Pinetop Perkins is a multi-award winning true legend of blues piano who is currently touring with Willie “Big Eyes” Smith who is a well known Chicago blues drumming legend but may actually be playing Harmonica as his main instrument. Pinetop is well known for being a living blues historian and great blues storyteller during his live shows and this will be a sure treat for any blues lover. He has played and recorded with a who’s who of blues including Muddy Waters and many others.

Here is a link to a great article featured in today’s Star Tribune about Pinetop Perkins: LINK.
